work it: leather skirt

leather skirt

Hello and happy week!  Leather skirts are trending for fall, so scooping one up that takes you from work to play will prove to be a worthy investment.  I’m an advocate of a “one wardrobe” approach to fashion, meaning your clothing can crossover and function in different areas of your life.  Many of us divide our closet into “workwear” and “weekend clothes” but that is expensive, inefficient and some of us just don’t have that much closet space!  Take a new approach when shopping and think about how you can wear your items in multiple ways.  The slightest adjustment in your styling could change your look from office chic to date night hotness!  And your wallet will thank you too!  Here’s an example on how to do it with one of the seasons hottest pieces.  xx jenny

home inspiration - colorful living roomHello and happy Friday! Wrapping up this week, I want to piggy back on this post from wednesday. Since I will now include home fashion content on the blog, here are a few spaces that have inspired me. I keep ongoing home decor pinterest boards which I highly recommend, so when looking to redecorate or just spruce up your digs there is inspiration to draw from. Looking at what others do with design can generate ideas and help you figure out a style that you love! Keep what you like and leave what you don’t! Just like with personal wardrobe style, our homes are silent expressions of ourselves. Take the time to create an atmosphere where you are authentically represented, feel excited to come home, are proud to entertain in and are comfortable just being. Have a great weekend! xx jenny

it ain’t over till it’s over

22 Jul

fashion vibeHello and happy Monday! Friday I paid a visit to zara and was shocked to see they had inventory left of the summer must-have mini skort worn by fashionistas a plenty. At least once a day I see a new creatively styled version on my pinterest feed, so was positive it would be sold out by now. If you haven’t picked one up, summer season is still looming and it certainly has a few wears remaining. I have worn it to death already from work – to play – to date night, and plan on more face time before seasonal retirement. Like Lenny Kravitz sang on his 1991 release of the album Mama Said, “it ain’t over till it’s over”. A few takes on it from the street and my version here!

Have a happy week!

fall ideas

17 Jul

leandra medineI know, I know – it’s July and you’d rather me stop talking about fall since we’re in high summer.  I get it.  But for all that know me, I’m a pretty efficient planner so can’t help forward thinking.  Leather shorts are not new to the uber trendy fashionistas a la Leandra Medine (above) but because I’ve just recently joined the short-wearing tribe I’m thinking this is my moment.  A small window allows for this silhouette – summer being too warm and winter certainly too cold.  Perhaps my mc’planny skills will come in handy to ensure we find the most ideal pair ahead of time for the short-lived opportunity!  Here’s a few I’ve found, ranging in both price and material for everyone’s individual needs and some other styling ideas here, here and here.  Enjoy!

Join me on instagram and pinterest for daily style tips and inspiration!

leather shorts

  1. Zara leather effect shorts, $59.90 (sale $39.99), zara.com
  2. Topshop leather shorts, $240, topshop.com
  3. French Connection leather short, $296.98, asos.com
  4. HELMUT Helmut Lang pull on shorts, $595, shopbop.com
  5. River Island faux leather laser cut shorts, $80, riverisland.com

spain does it again

15 Jul

collage vintage

No one wants to start thinking about fall – certainly not me!  But in true jenny, type A form – I have started mentally preparing my autumn wardrobe and analyzing what my ‘uniform’ will entail through the cooler months.  Of course I find a picture of Sara from Collage Vintage and just like that – I’m inspired.  If you haven’t checked out her blog – I urge you to do so.  The girl has got serious style.  I’m not fluent in Spanish (blog is written in her native language) but the pictures are worth a thousand words.  This particular look is transitional, taking pieces that you’re not ready to retire from summer and adding a second layer to keep you warm in the fall.  Switch out the sandals for booties and the tee for a cozy sweater and voila! – you’ve got your winter version.  Shop it here.

spain does it again...

  1. Zara tee, $12.95, zara.com
  2. Mango super slim jeans, $59.99 (sale $34.99), mango.com
  3. Ray-ban gold aviator sunglasses, $145, ray-ban.com
  4. Nixon cannon watch, $149.99, tillys.com

happy 100th!

12 Jul

celebrate!

Today marks Your Soul Style’s 100th post so I think it’s cause for a celebration!  Before beginning this blog I wasn’t sure how it would all go down.  I was hesitant to start since my follow through hasn’t always been on point.  I chalk this up to living a life of trial and error (and through that, learning what works for me).  I figure “tis better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all”.   We only know what we know, and are what we are based on the experiences that shape us.  The pursuit of Your Soul Style however came with a purity that I had yet to experience.  It was as if all of the work I had done in my life both personally and professionally was leading up to this moment – let’s call it the perfect storm.  Your Soul Style was organically born out of a combined passion for personal style, fashion, and mental health.  I’m a firm believer that we are at our best when we feel our best and one can achieve this through embracing uniqueness and individuality.  Empowerment can happen when we connect with ourselves at the core and that beauty and strength is facilitated through our self expression.  I want these messages to be conveyed through this platform because my underlying goal is to motivate you to find your own rhythm.  I hope you have enjoyed the ride so far.

I am so grateful for all of the love and support I’ve had while on this journey.  Thank you to my friends and family for standing by me.  It means the world.  A special thank you to my beloved wife, whom without this would never have been possible.  Not only did she wholeheartedly stand behind me when I decided to leave my “9-5” traditional corporate job, but her patience while navigating through these first 6 months has been unwavering.  I’d be lying if I said Your Soul Style isn’t all-consuming and Dina like the rock that she is – stays steady while my head is buried deep in research and writing.  I’ve been learning to create a better work/life balance and we’ve had our fair share of conversations about that – but I’ll never forget this time.  It takes a very strong and special partner to be able to step aside and allow you to spread your wings – I’m forever grateful to my wife.

Like all important projects – the work is constantly in progress and evolving.  My ultimate goal is to create a place where you can visit, feel related to and walk away feeling inspired.  For all the women that have influenced me in my life, this is my opportunity to pay it forward.  There is no greater joy than seeing someone live up to their potential.  It is here where we thrive, find balance and true fulfillment.

I look forward to continuing this journey with you – sharing and growing along the way.  And I hope to give you the courage to always embrace Your Soul Style.

xx jenny

the skinny on the skinny

10 Jul

we wore what

Fashion is revolutionary and repeats/reinvents itself decade after decade. Let’s take the slim/skinny pant for instance. Marilyn Monroe was rocking them in the 50’s, the Beatles in the 60’s, the punk phenomenon in the late 70’s was all over it, the 80’s owned this style in acid wash and please tell me you remember farlow’s in the 90’s? Now we have this ever-so-popular (and timeless) silhouette in every color, texture, print, pattern and fabric imaginable. So what’s next? Enter the skinny slit pant. The same popular fit with just an ever so slight slit detail on the leg (front, side or back), adding some freshness and edge to our most adorned bottom. I’m a fan – and can’t wait to get my hands on a pair. I’m dying for Danielle’s (above) from J.Brand, but they’re currently sold out. Don’t fret! I found a few other options – some even on sale! xx jenny
