weekly inspiration

milan fashion week

Summer kicked off last Friday and we are in full swing.  Lucky for us New Yorkers, we’ve had a run of amazing weather despite the humidity spike this past week.  I’ll take this over rain any day of the week and twice on Sunday.  Weather like this makes for a lot of rooftop cocktails and dining al fresco which thus enables us to wear our cutest summery ensembles.  This week I’ve pulled together a a few of my faves to inspire and keep you looking and feeling cool all season long.  Hope you have a fantastic weekend everyone!   xx jenny

Head-to-toe of the same print or pattern is not for everyone, especially when it’s uber bold like here and here.  I have an appreciation for fashionistas who are courageous enough to embrace this trend wholeheartedly but think I’d prefer to just dabble in it then go all the way.  Stripes are safer since they are clean and linear, making things much easier on the eye.  Gwyneth’s black and white version is pretty risk free and keeps it safe while still achieving the overall trend.  What do you think?  Will you give it a shot?  Shop the look here.

splurge vs. steal

24 Jun

zara topI’m not a huge proponent of spending tons of money on clothing that doesn’t have a long shelf life.  I’ll splurge on pieces that are timeless and classic but am conservative when it comes to a passing fad.  I’m well aware that although I like fashion that is trend right – there is a high probability that next season I will be over it.  Thank god for stores like zara who redo styles taken straight from the runway without the designer price tags.  I happened upon this floral number there last week which certainly feeds my appetite for (currently trending) floral and at a price point of $79.90 (it’s now $59.99 on sale!) I couldn’t resist scooping it up.  I’ll be pairing this pretty summer top with something like this…

floral top

  1. Zara printed jacquard top, $79.90 (sale price $59.99),
  2. Current/Elliot distressed stiletto jeans, $228,
  3. Dannijo zazu earrings, $320,
  4. Clare Vivier haircalf clutch, $180,
  5. Nine West vintage america bootie, $199,

Happy Friday!  I hope you had a great week and have something fantastic planned for the next couple of days off.  Rounding out this weeks posts I will leave you with a few quotes said by people from Albert Einstein to Coco Chanel.  Some are deeper than others but more importantly they are all aligned with the Your Soul Style philosophy.  We all get caught up in the noise of fashion that surrounds us, sometimes losing ourselves because of the overwhelming external influences that pull is in a million directions.  But these messages remind us of the true definition of beauty and style.  Don’t. Ever. Forget.  Enjoy and have a great weekend!  xx jenny

peachy keen

20 Jun

peachy keenI’m always on the hunt for outfit inspiration so when I spotted the above look – I had to add it to the archives.  Consider me inspired!  It will seamlessly take you from desk to dinner, is season appropriate and has the perfect combination of classic, hip, sexy and slightly edgy.  I’m a ‘maje’ fan of all white and the pop of of peach in the blazer is well – just peachy!

Style tip:  Although the whites are not exactly the same shade – they completely work together and create a beautiful monochromatic look.  Don’t be scared to mix different levels of the same hue – you don’t need to match exactly from head-to-toe to maintain cohesiveness in your overall styling.

Shop it here!  Have a fantastic day! xx

in uniform

19 Jun

white shirt, blue denim

There is no better go-to uniform then the classic white shirt paired with denim.  If all else fails during your morning routine, you know you’re golden with this combination and can create whatever look you want from this canvas.  Add bold accessories, keep it clean, stilettos or flats, a second layer – the versatility is endless.  A good white shirt can be worn all year long and as for denim – well, it may as well be your second skin.  Designers are always updating the classic silhouette with fresh details so how about going outside the box and trying a shirt-tail hem or oversized boyfriend style?  Also think about spending a little extra on this essential staple for added quality since it’ll be on heavy rotation and need to stand up to constant wearings.  Like all good investments – they are worth it because of longevity!  I’ve combed the interweb and found a few of the best styles available now.  Enjoy!

clothes that make the (wo)man!

18 Jun

Last week I was out of commission due to surgery I had on Tuesday (more to come on that later).  Since I was home in recovery mode my wardrobe consisted of this tank top and these sweatpants.  I’m just about jumping out of my fashion skin with a bad dose of cabin fever and ready to bust out and get dressed!  I’m not even a fancy person (at all!) but I just need to put actual clothes on.  My closet suddenly seems like it’s full of endless outfit opportunities and I’m chomping at the bit to style my own wardrobe.  Isn’t it amazing what happens when you step away from something for just a moment?  That old “you want what you can’t have” adage seems to ring true.  I’ve pulled together a few looks that have inspired me with hopes to get your creative juices flowin’ too.  Follow me on instagram as I’m sure I’ll be posting some recreations this week and and if you do the same – post the photo, tag me @yoursoulstyle and hashtag #yoursoulstyle so we could compare notes!  xx jenny

**disclaimer – clearly I’m still working towards that whole incorporating color thing like I wrote about here and here!

spotlight: isabel marant for h&m

14 Jun

Even when I think I have my finger on the fashion pulse, I get a surprise text from a friend and an e-mail like this with a headline reading “Isabel Marant for H&M”.  This is thrilling news since Marant’s effortlessly chic, parisian influenced designer duds will now be available at affordable price points that we all can indulge in.  If you don’t think you know Isabel Marant you are most likely mistaken.  Have you noticed wedge sneakers and the slim fitting “dressed up” sweatpant on every fashionista around?  Yup – Isabel Marant is the pioneer behind these uber trends.  Her own label is relaxed and wearable and she states the H&M collaboration “is infused with this kind of easiness and attitude. Everything can be mixed following one’s own instincts: my take on fashion is all about personality.”  Available on November 14th in 250 stores nationwide and online,  this collection is sure to be chock full of pieces that you will definitely want to check out.  I don’t think we’ll be disappointed.  More to follow on this soon, I’m sure – I’ll let you know as soon as I do!

Have a great weekend everyone.  xx #yoursoulstyle
