festival fashion…

This past weekend I went to the GoogaMooga festival in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.  We joked that it was a ‘poor man’s Coachella‘ but its focus is food rather than music so it’s not really an apples to apples comparison.  On the other hand, like Coachella it was apparent that fashion and style played a large role.  Different than the west coast’s rock ‘n’ roll boho babe who looks like this, Brooklyn’s version had a more downtown, edgy hipster feel like this.  But there were hats, some fringes and cut off denim shorts and the likes so not a complete departure.  Summer festivals are about to pop off in full swing so let’s get talking about festival fashion!  What will you wear to BonnarooAustin City LimitsBurning Man?  I’d love to see how you style your festival fashion look.  Send photos to yoursoulstyle@gmail.com or post on instagram with the hashtag #yoursoulstyle.  I’ll be dancing at Gathering of the Vibes in some of these.  More to come!

que sarong sarong - 2

Well hello my friends and happy Friday.  It’s no secret that I’m an avid zara shopper.  I’m positive that no other brand combines a high fashion style sensibility with affordable price points better than they do.  And the merchandise is well made so you know you’re getting quality that won’t fall apart after one wearing.  When shopping for trend right items it’s not necessary to pay astronomical amounts of money because you and I both know that next season the likelihood of you wearing it with the same enthusiasm is a pipe dream.  It will go into the “I never wear this anymore – but maybe I will one day so I’m not throwing it away yet” pile.  And then two years pass and while spring cleaning, you see everything you’ve saved for those, “just in case” moments and debate whether you qualify for an episode of hoarders.  Okay – maybe that’s just me?  But some of you know what I mean, right?  Anyway, zara is ideal for these trendy items and there is a high probability that you will find a gem that will become timeless in your wardrobe too.  This is how I feel about these flowing sarong trousers that I scooped up last week.  They are seriously my dream silhouette and the zara gods must have had me in mind in their design phase.  I wore them like above yesterday and am already thinking about next time and the time after that – ya feel me?  I will live in these pants all summer long and at $59.90 you may too.  I picked up the black, but they come in hot pink for all you color crushers.  Shop the look below and have a happy weekend!

Stay tuned for next weeks posts – an epic styling tip to make your body look long and lean and beach vacation essentials!  xx #yoursoulstyle

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and lovely mother’s day. It seems us north-easterner’s are still amidst the tempermental weather patterns, today dropping to 59 degrees (45 tonight)!  Our daily head scratching days of ‘what to wear’ continue. I pulled this look from carolines mode, offering some further inspiration for you while we navigate through to the warmer temperatures. This look is spring-like and embraces the season from a fashion perspective but the blazer (offering a second layer) and embellished (closed toe) loafers keep it weather appropriate.  Shop it here…

hat’s off (or on)…

Beach days are quickly approaching and what’s better than the perfect fashionable hat to shield us from the piping summer sun!  Okay – I have to disclose that hats are a new accessory for me as I’ve been a sun worshiper up until this point and do like to tan my face, but I’m trying to be more mindful as I head into my mid thirties (yikes!).  Hats are a maje trend so it’s not hard finding one that fits well and looks super stylish to complete your epic beachy look.  I have already picked up one for the season from zara (I have searched high and low for an image to show you but can’t seem to find one!), but here are a few others I’ve curated from the interweb to keep you protected and looking ultra chic this summer.

Beyonce-HM1-720x450

Last week H&M released a new swimwear collection featuring the one and only, iconic Beyonce Knowles (aka Mrs. Carter).  The summer campaign features Beyonce in a few key pieces for the season and according to her are representative of, “the four elements – fire, water, earth and wind”.  In the press release made in March – H&M stated Beyonce is an ideal spokesperson for the campaign, demonstrating “the idea that all women can be all things: strong, vulnerable, sensual, maternal, fun, flirtatious.”  I couldn’t be more thrilled with H&M’s choice to feature Beyonce as a brand ambassador.  As a woman who emphasizes the importance of female empowerment through music, H&M will help send her powerful and vital message globally.  I’ll leave you with these lyrics from one of her songs….and a few beautiful shots from the campaign.  All swimwear available in stores now!  xx – #yoursoulstyle

in transition

Hi friends – happy almost weekend.  The weather has ‘sort of’ picked up in NYC however I’m not 100% satisfied.  It needs to be at least 10 degrees warmer before I can really get excited.  Right now my version of true spring fashion is on the back burner, my sandals are crying all cooped up in my closet – boo hoo.  I’ve noticed some girls have already set them free, but  I need the thermometer to at least hit 75 before my feetsies see daylight.   I’ve retired my boots and winter coat (I’m done!  I am so done!), but sandals will have to wait.  So what do we do during this transitional, in-between period from a fashion perspective?  I’m sure if you are from the northeast, mornings are spent scratching your head thinking “what do I wear? is it time for my pastel printed pants to make their debut?”  I’m in the same boat – I feel you!  Here are a few looks to inspire you for the next few weeks.  Leather, layers, pointy toe heels – oh my!  All must haves!  And some other links I’ve come across this past week to keep you busy for a minute over the next few days.  Have a happy weekend! *above photo via here

white hot

Happy Monday!  Did you all have a nice weekend?  Let’s discuss blazers today – an appropriate item for this ongoing brisk spring weather!  Something tells me you have a black one hanging in your closet already.  Or if you don’t, you’ve certainly had a conversation with yourself about needing one.  Am I right?  Well I’ve got a proposition for you – instead of taking out the good ole staple black blazer for your second layer this season, why not get a brand spanking new white one??  I’m a lover of white always (as I’m sure you’ve figured out from this post) so no brainer for me .  But how about you??  Are you ready to swap the classic for trendier version?  I think you should go for it and I promise you won’t look like a waiter.  That’s an old wives tale – just like the “don’t wear white after labor day or before memorial” – who the heck came up with that?  Anyway, here’s a few styles to get you going, me rocking it this weekend and check this and this out for more visual convincing!   above photo via here

weekend reform

19 Apr

Screen Shot 2013-04-17 at 10.07.46 PM

It’s Friday – finally!  We’ve made it and the weekend is here.  Hope you all have something enjoyable planned and are spending time with your favorite people.  Rounding out my week of shopping posts – I thought I’d offer you a final tip to take you into the weekend.

I happened upon reformation when I was shopping the LES  (LES = lower east side) for my pre-wedding dinner outfit.  I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going for however I knew I wanted to look edgy (black was a must) to counter the white dress that would happen the next night.  So alas – reformation appeared.  Choices galore – between the backless jumpsuits and plunging neckline maxi dresses I was like a kid in a candy store.  I wound up with this gem, felt perfect and certainly achieved my fashion goal for the night – reformation had done me right.  With no question I had found exactly what I had been looking for.  On top of them carrying a stellar fashion collection from an aesthetic point of view, it is “an environmentally sustainable fashion brand that repurposes vintage and surplus materials.  Their collection is made locally in the New York and Los Angeles studios, and sold directly to their stores at fair prices”  Get the full story here.  Head over to the site if you’re not native to NYC or LA because they ship throughout the US, free on orders over $50.  It’s kind of a win all around, right?

Here are some of my favorites that I’m coveting from the spring/summer collection.
