the classics

the classicsAnd to piggy back on last weeks post which offered affordable trendy items to refresh your spring/summer 2014 wardrobe, investing in some seasonal classics is essential too.  These are the pieces to spend a little more money on since their shelf life is endless. They are the trends that move through a revolving door, reappearing year after year.  Every wardrobe needs a strong foundation, and these key basics will provide a sturdy baseline.  I’ve rounded up my list of ‘must-haves’ which I can assure you will go the distance.  Happy Monday!

Stay tuned for some exciting changes coming your way this Friday, which I cannot wait to share!  Your Soul Style is growing up!  Stay very, very VERY tuned!

wishlist - 2

The key to building an efficient wardrobe is finding pieces that can be re-worked into multiple outfits.  To accomplish this, a productive exercise when shopping is to think about what you can pair back to the item you’re eyeing – whether it be with something that exists in your closet or one that you need (i.e., a good pair of denim!).  If you can create 3 – 5 outfit ideas in your head on the spot, this item has potential for a lot of wear (which will also help you determine if it’s worth the investment)!  I recently made this fall wishlist post which included key seasonal pieces like a playful sweatshirt and leather skirt.  Here are four outfit ideas (there are much more!) styled from the edits adding accessories and basics to complete the look!  Your closet doesn’t need to be busting at the seams with endless items.  Always remember, less is more!  Strategizing your wardrobe will not only help you save space and money, but will force you to think about purchasing pieces that you love thus will go the distance.  Happy shopping ya’ll!  xx jenny

♥ fall wishlist ♥

30 Aug

This weekend marks the unofficial end of summer which means fall is here ladies!  My wishlist has been brewing and I wanted to share because it includes a few key pieces to stock up on.  Although I’ll likely not purchase everything, hence the word, “wish”,  a version of each will certainly make it into the rotation!  What’s on your list?  Maybe you even have some of these items hanging in your closet already?  Be sure to join me here to check out how I style these throughout the season!  And show me how you do too by tagging me on instagram @yoursoulstyle, also using the hashtag #yoursoulstyle.  Let’s inspire each other!

Next week I’ll show you how to mix and match these key pieces to get a plethora of outfit options!  Stay tuned!  Have a great long weekend!  xx jenny

work it: printed pants

zara printed trousers

Hello and happy friday! Just like the leather skirt from this post, these zara printed pants are versatile enough for both work and weekend. For the office, try pairing with an embellished sweater, a tailored blazer and metallic flats which are sure to become a closet staple through the season. For weekend styling, take things up a notch with a cropped silk tee (or full length for those who want coverage), ankle-cuff pumps, statement earrings and a bold clutch. Work it! Have a great weekend! xx jenny

bootie-licious

2 Aug

olivia palermoWednesday I blasted this post about drawstring handbags and received an overwhelming response from readers, except there was a catch.  Many of you were more interested in the moto booties (from the cover photo) rather than the bag, commenting on how much you love and asking where to get a pair!   So my lady friends, ask and you shall receive.  The booties came from shoe designer, Matt Bernson – called the tundra.  Unfortunately right now they are sold out everywhere – I promise I used my interweb detective skills and searched high and low.  In lieu of this however, here is an edit of a few like-styles which can suffice as a solid (and maybe even better) alternative!   Hopefully these will satiate your bootie-licious appetite!  Have an epic weekend!  xx jenny

in uniform

19 Jun

white shirt, blue denim

There is no better go-to uniform then the classic white shirt paired with denim.  If all else fails during your morning routine, you know you’re golden with this combination and can create whatever look you want from this canvas.  Add bold accessories, keep it clean, stilettos or flats, a second layer – the versatility is endless.  A good white shirt can be worn all year long and as for denim – well, it may as well be your second skin.  Designers are always updating the classic silhouette with fresh details so how about going outside the box and trying a shirt-tail hem or oversized boyfriend style?  Also think about spending a little extra on this essential staple for added quality since it’ll be on heavy rotation and need to stand up to constant wearings.  Like all good investments – they are worth it because of longevity!  I’ve combed the interweb and found a few of the best styles available now.  Enjoy!

hermes backpackHermes Spring 2013

….backpacks! This Hermes bag was chosen by Meaghan Mahoney Dusil and Vladimir Dusil of PurseBlog as one of the “Top 10 Best Runway Bags of 2013” and I couldn’t be more psyched about it! What could be better than a carryall that enables you to evenly distribute the weight of all your necessary gear (ipad, iphone, makeup, wallet, sunglasses, keys to name a few!)!? What a relief this would be on your body – especially for urbanites who are not commuting via car but still want to look ultra stylish. Not just for students anymore – backpacks are chic, trend right and are a great alternative to lugging around a heavy shoulder bag. I’m pretty sure I’ve mastered the art of simultaneously holding a coffee, umbrella and giant handbag in the nook of my arm, but it comes at a price – ya feel me? I mean come on new mommies – you’ve gotta be so pumped right now, right? Let’s all rejoice because super cute designer and affordable options are now available! Not sure why I’m having such a ‘come to jesus’ moment around this old skool silhouette – but age may play into this (and of course the fashion gods). Check it… * photo via purseblog
